About Us
The Blue Marsh Restaurant was founded in 1978 by the Reed family. When Joseph Reed arrived in Reading with his parents in the early 1950s, he decided at the tender age of 11 that he was going to build a restaurant that would compliment the good nature and the warm spirit of Berks County. Several ventures in the 70s proved unsuccessful, until the site of the Blue Marsh Restaurant crossed his path, purely by accident. He was actually on his way to a property on the other side of Leesport, and had gotten fantastically lost and ended up by Blue Marsh Park. While trying to get his bearings, he stumbled upon a closed down bakery with a for sale sign posted out front. Realizing that what he perceived as misfortune was actually fate, he immediately contacted the property owner, and the rest is history.
The Blue Marsh Restaurant has stayed in the family ever since, and maintained its status in Berks County as a warm and inviting restaurant, suitable for any occasion. Our entire staff is made up of friends and family who have grown up together and were raised here in Berks County. For thirty years now our humble restaurant has carried on, through the ups and downs, including a grease fire in 1991 that nearly burned the whole place to the ground. No fire could ever damage the spirit of the Blue Marsh Restaurant. We are a part of the community and we are here to stay.
